GP Surgeries Update 08.04.22

Please be advised that this is the third successive week of a higher than usual level of absence at the Practice.

Not only does this have a cumulative effect on appointment availability, it creates additional work as the remaining team try to reorganise appointments and prioritise patients appropriately so that those who need to can still be seen.

With high levels of Covid infection within the community causing staff illness, combined with planned absences within the team, we have this past week had an absence rate of 40%. Every team at the Practice has been affected.

Unfortunately, some aspects of non-urgent care and/or patient related admin may be subject to reorganisation or delay. We would like to reassure patients that we are doing we all we can to provide a sustainable service and continuity of care.

Patient Information Update 22.03.22

We are in the process of sending a text to all patients over the age of 18 to ask for updated information regarding height and weight.

As Doctors we use BMI in conjunction with other measures to work out an individual's level of risk in many disease areas. This is particularly relevant at the moment as BMI is a known risk factor for patients with Covid.

Whilst we appreciate that this can be a sensitive matter it is important that we have current information within your medical records to ensure that we are able to evaluate risk and deliver appropriate care and so we hope you will understand.

If you are able to spare a few minutes to complete the survey we would appreciate it as it helps us to help you and offer support where needed.

Patient Update 09.02.22

As we enter 2022 we are aware that the difficulties currently being experienced within the NHS caused by COVID combined with winter pressures may cause frustration.

I would like to reassure our patients that we are genuinely doing our best to keep our services under review to ensure we provide care that will meet their needs.

We know we are not perfect and when we get something wrong we will do our best to put it right. We are always willing to review what we do in response to the current challenges but not everything is within our control.

Please remember that when you contact the Surgeries you are interacting with a member of my team who does the job they do because they want the best for you.

Unfortunately we have had an increasing number of incidents at the Surgery where patients feel it is acceptable to raise their voices, shout and swear at the team.

It is not.

We have a zero tolerance policy regarding abusive language and/or behaviour and any patient behaving in this way will be warned that it is inappropriate. If it is repeated we have the right to remove a patient from our list.

Please understand that I have a duty to ensure my team have a safe place of work where their well being is not compromised. Our team have repeatedly gone above and beyond during the last 2 years to ensure that we have been able to provide a safe sustainable service for our patients. Without them, we cannot do this.

It saddens me to have to remind patients of this and yet again ask that our team are treated with courtesy and respect at ALL times.

Alconbury and Brampton Surgeries Update January 2022

Covid Vaccinations

After a busy Christmas period we enter 2022 with 90% of our eligible patients vaccinated, 98% of those with a first dose have had their second and 90% of all eligible patients have now received their booster Covid vaccination. Due to the commitment of our team we were able to deliver the additional vaccination clinics at short notice without cancelling any routine appointments and we could not have achieved this without our amazing volunteers so a huge thank you to everyone involved in the clinics.

Covid Data/NHS App Queries

As we move into the new year I would like to take the opportunity to advise patients that queries regarding their vaccination records are being dealt with centrally by the Vaccination Data Resolution Service who are accessible by requesting the service via 119. Likewise we are not involved in supporting the NHS App and are unable to answer queries regarding the Covid Pass. Patients under 16 are not currently able to access an online version of this and once they have had 2 vaccinations evidence of this can be obtained by applying for a letter of confirmation from 119.

Our Team

The Practice list size continues to grow as we accommodate new patients at both Surgeries and we are recruiting to expand our team to ensure that the care we provide is not compromised. In the last few months we have welcomed a new Nurse Donna and phlebotomist Tereasa to the team whilst we are advertising for an additional salaried GP. We are also currently recruiting for a receptionist at Brampton as Belle is leaving us after 20 years service with the Practice. She will be missed by both staff and patients but we wish her well in her retirement. In February we have a change in the GP trainees working with us at the Practice and welcome Drs Mirabdulhagh, Ogundapo and Findakli to the team. As always we thank our patients for their support in engaging with our Registrars and medical students as our role as a training practice contributes to a sustainable General Practice for the future.


Our patient group is actively seeking a new committee member. This involves just 4 meetings a year and enables the Practice a patient voice to discuss new services and engage with. If you might like to be involved then do contact reception to find out more. As part of their services to patients Albram operate a very successful volunteer transport scheme that helps our patients access healthcare services accross the local community. If you have a few hours a week to spare and would consider becoming a volunteer driver then please do contact either reception team and we will put you in touch with the transport coordinators.

The Partners and I would like to take this opportunity to thank our local community for their ongoing support and patience over the last 12months and wish them a happy and healthy new year.

COVID-19 Vaccination programme – update 27.09.21

Our practice vaccinated thousands of patients in the earlier stages of the COVID-19 vaccination programme, and we are so grateful to our wonderful practice team as well as brilliant local volunteers whose dedication and commitment enabled us to help protect our community from COVID-19. 

The vaccination programme is now entering its next phase, with booster vaccinations being offered to those most at risk of COVID-19. We are not offering these booster vaccinations at our practice, so if you are eligible, and it has been at least six months since your second dose, then please visit or call 119 to book. Please note booster vaccines cannot be accessed on a walk-in basis.

COVID Booster Vaccinations Update 17.09.21

Alconbury & Brampton Surgeries have made the difficult decision that we will not be delivering the covid boosters for our patients.

 As part of the A1 Network we have opted not to deliver this service as the Practices feel the need to concentrate our efforts on providing our core services to patients in what is proving a challenging time.

 The CCG are currently finalising their plans as to how and where the boosters will be delivered. There are not any PCNs locally providing this service and we anticipate this may mean patients are asked attend a mass vaccination centre or hospital hub. Once we know more we will share the information with you.

Blood Test Equipment 27.08.21

A supplier to the NHS has advised us of a global shortage of some equipment used for taking blood tests.

Anyone who needs a test for urgent health problems, will still get one but where your clinician recommends that it’s safe to do so, then you may be asked to come back for a test at a later date, or your appointment may be rescheduled.

Given the nature of the shortage, we cannot give an exact date for when the test will be rescheduled, but please be assured that if your condition or symptoms require it, then you will get a test, and we will be re-booking your test when supplies become more easily available.

If your condition or symptoms change or get worse, please contact the NHS as you would normally.

All of our COVID-19 secure measures remain in place and this will not change when Government guidance changes on 19 July 2021.

Patients are asked to continue to wear a face covering, unless they are exempt, and to follow social distancing when visiting our GP Practice. 

This follows the national Infection Prevention Control (IPC) Guidance for all healthcare settings and will help to ensure the safety of our staff and patients at all times.

Brampton Surgery Telephones 27.05.21

We would like to advise patients that our new telephone system at Brampton Surgery has gone live this morning.

The new system has greater capacity and is designed to help patients speak to the most appropriate member of the team more efficiently.

It will give you the option to leave a request for repeat medication or to speak to the secretaries (at Alconbury) if you have a query about a report or referral.

Any other calls/queries will be dealt with by reception as previously.

We also now have a short queuing facility so that patients are less likely to get a busy tone or need to keep retrying our number.

Please bear with us whilst we adjust to the new system over the next few days.

Alconbury & Brampton Surgeries have opted IN to phase 2 of the vaccination programme which means our patients age 18-49 will receive an invitation to attend Alconbury Surgery in the coming weeks via accurx.

You may also receive an invite by letter or text to attend a local mass vaccination centre. Please use the link supplied to reply to our text should you wish to decline the offer of a vaccination with us or choose to be vaccinated elsewhere. This enables us to ensure the vaccination reaches those who want it as quickly as possible.

The GP Patient Survey 2020 Results are in!

We are pleased to share that we scored higher than the CCG average in every question on this years survey.

Some highlights:

98% found our receptionists were helpful.

90% were happy with the appointment times available and 88% described their experience of making an appointment as good.

98% felt that the healthcare professional was good at listening to them and 92% felt they were given enough time.

98% of the patients surveyed felt involved as much as they wanted on decisions about their care and 96% had trust and confidence in the healthcare professional looking after them.

98% felt that any mental health needs were recognised and understood.

97% felt that their needs were met by the Practice, 93% of patients described their experience of our Surgeries as good with 71% saying we were very good.

Thank you to those patients who were tasked to complete a survey this year. We always welcome patient feedback and are keen to listen and understand how we can improve the care we provide our patients.

Covid Vaccine information 16.03.21

To allay concerns about the headlines regarding blood clots and the Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccine, I should like to give you some facts. There is NO evidence that the vaccine causes blood clots. Decisions to "pause" vaccination programmes in some countries are purely political, and not evidence based.

We have in the UK , so far, given over 20 million doses of AZ vaccine over the last 3 months. There have only been 30 reported cases of "thrombotic events" or blood clots, and one of these sadly was fatal.

However, blood clots are common- In the UK 1 in 1000 people get a blood clot every year , so in 3 months you would expect 1 in 4000 people to get a clot. It is likely that, by chance, some of these clots might just happen to be a day or 2 after vaccination. Amongst vaccinated people, the above stats show 1 in 60,000 people only have had a clot which is related in time to the vaccine. So fewer people have had a clot than you would expect just by chance! The statistics might make you believe that you should actually get vaccinated to prevent clots! (which of course, is nonsense, just as it is also nonsense to say that the vaccine causes clots, on current evidence).

COVID Vaccination Update 14.03.21

The A1 Network continue to invite patients to attend for their covid vaccinations at Alconbury & Little Paxton Surgeries. We are vaccinating patients in priority order and are making good progress to include all patients age 50+ or 18+ and at moderate risk of covid.

If you receive an invite and have already booked your vaccine elsewhere or wish to decline then please do reply to the text and advise us. We are currently spending a lot of time chasing patients who do not intend to attend but remain sitting on our recall list. We have to attempt 3 calls and send a letter before these patients can be removed and we can offer the vaccine to someone else.

We anticipate offering 2nd doses 11 weeks after the first. Delivery details are just being finalised and 2nd dose invites should be arriving in the next week.

Covid Vaccination Update 03.03.21

The A1 Network continue to deliver the vaccination programme as vaccine supplies are made available to us. We will continue to work through the Government identified cohorts to vaccinate patients in line with national guidance.

As of 2nd March we have vaccinated 15285 patients from our 2 PCN community hubs which is 43% of our patients over the age of 16. This includes:

97.5% of patients aged 80+

96.5% of patents aged 75-79

96% of patients aged 70-74 and

89% of patients considered extremely vulnerable (including more recently added patients).

We do not have any further information yet about second doses. We anticipate that we will be asked to deliver them at around 12 weeks which means we may potentially have a very busy Easter break! Please do NOT contact the surgeries regarding second doses. If you are eligible then when we have vaccine allocated for this you will receive an invite.

COVID Vaccination Update 22.02.21

The A1 Network has been working hard to deliver the Covid vaccination programme to our patients in line with government guidance.

As of 14th February we have vaccinated 11282 patients from our 2 PCN community hubs which is 32% of our patients over the age of 16. This includes:
91% of patients aged 80+
95% of patents aged 75-79
94% of patients aged 70-74 and
90% of patients considered extremely vulnerable.

More than 79% of patients in care homes have been vaccinated and work with the community nursing team is ongoing to ensure all housebound patients are offered their first vaccination by the end of this week.

We will continue to work through our existing cohorts in line with government guidance and are proactively working to identify any patients who may have been missed for any reason. We will be in touch again when we know more about delivery of second doses, we have not yet been given guidance.

Update 02.02.21 - A personal thank you to absolutely everyone involved in the start of the A1 network Covid vaccinations programme January 2021

To everyone who has been involved in helping to deliver the first 10,000 vaccines to our most vulnerable residents and workers, across the A1 network, which includes Alconbury and Brampton surgeries, Almond Road, Buckden and Little Paxton, Kimbolton and Sawtry (Wellside) surgeries, a huge THANK YOU!

From the core team who have worked long days 7 days a week for the last 3 weeks, to all the practice staff, who have either been part of vaccine teams or supported them by doing the daily work of General Practice, to the many fabulous volunteers helping with every aspect of vaccine logistics (and often in the freezing cold), and the volunteers who are ready and waiting to help in the next run of clinics, to the locals who put up with the additional traffic, to the friends and neighbours who brought frail people to the vaccination hubs, and to the people being vaccinated, who are helping to defeat the virus just by being vaccinated-

This is just the start of a long process, and there will be a few more challenges yet, but we are learning how to make the process better at each clinic, and look forward to being able to plan clinics with known vaccine delivery dates (currently we are given less than a week’s notice of delivery), and letting those people who have yet to get their vaccine know when it will be available.

If you have not yet been vaccinated, or know someone locally who has not yet been vaccinated and are aged over 70 or are a health or social care worker, please let your local practice know. Everyone who has not yet been vaccinated (at any age) can also help the programme by making sure that your GP practice has correct contact details (ideally a mobile phone number), as you will be contacted by text to book your appointment via an automated system. The text comes from and takes you to a survey link to book your appointment. This should help you to tell it is not a scam. If you do not have a mobile phone, someone will contact you on your landline to book your appointment.

Don’t forget- the vaccine will not yet provide full protection and you must still distance etc

Update 20.01.21 GP surgeries in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough prepare to give Covid-19 vaccinations.

GP practices in the A1 area of Cambridgeshire will start to deliver Covid-19 vaccinations to local residents aged over 80 from 20 January, as the roll out of the biggest vaccination programme in NHS history gains further momentum.

Health providers are setting up local vaccination centres at the Alconbury Surgery and Little Paxton Surgery. They have worked rapidly to put in place safe processes to meet the tough logistical challenges of offering the vaccination.

Their teams have been working hard to contact local residents aged over 80 to book them in for an appointment to be vaccinated against Covid-19. 
The NHS will contact people in the priority groups when it is their turn to receive the vaccine.

Dr Francesca Lasman, a recently retired local GP who has come out of retirement to help deliver the vaccination programme in Cambridgeshire said, 
“We are delighted to support the biggest and most highly anticipated national immunisation campaign in history by vaccinating and protecting our vulnerable local residents against Covid-19.”
“I would like to thank the team of practice staff from local practices who have worked long hours to bring the project together, and the very large team of local volunteers who will be helping us to deliver the vaccinations going forward.”
“Please do not call your GP practice to book, we will contact you. If you are invited to book an appointment, we would encourage you to take up the opportunity. When you attend your appointment, you will need to follow social distancing guidance, bring and wear a face covering or visor, and follow hand hygiene guidance. These steps help to save lives.
“We want to reassure patients that our GP practices will remain open and if you have any urgent medical concerns you should contact us.”

Dr Gary Howsam, Chair at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG said,
“GPs and their teams have been working incredibly hard this winter, especially over the Christmas and New Year period, to see and treat patients, and to get ready for delivering the COVID-19 vaccine to care homes. General Practice is very experienced in delivering vaccinations, and I would urge everyone who is offered the vaccine to have it to help protect them from COVID-19.”

“Staff across the NHS are working to roll-out the vaccine as quickly as possible to patients who are most at risk of the virus, with hospital hubs already delivering the vaccine to people over the age of 80.”

GP sites providing vaccinations will be spread across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, more will join on a phased basis.

Covid Vaccination Update 07.01.21

We are pleased to advise that our Primary Care Network (Alconbury & Brampton, Buckden & Little Paxton, Kimbolton, Almond Road and Wellside Surgeries) have agreement to participate in the Covid vaccination delivery programme for our patients.

It is anticipated that we will offer this service from both Alconbury and Little Paxton Surgeries as community hubs and we hope to be able to start vaccinating in the next 2-3 weeks.

If you are in one of the priority groups for vaccination and we do not have a current mobile phone number for you then please help us by emailing your mobile phone number along with your name, date of birth, address and agreement for us to communicate via text message to

This will facilitate being able to make an appointment for your vaccination at the appropriate time. If you do not have a mobile phone then we will still make sure you are contacted regarding your appointment.

As per the NHS England advice please do not contact us about the vaccine at the moment, you will be contacted as soon as it is possible to arrange your vaccination.

We are currently planning the delivery of this service and the situation is changing on a daily basis. We would like to reassure you that we are keen to see that the coronavirus vaccination is offered to our patients as soon as possible.

COVID-19 Vaccination programme

The NHS has started to vaccinate the most at-risk priority groups including over-80s, social and health care workers in local hospital hubs and a few community hubs. Whilst a few GP surgeries will be established as Covid vaccination hubs, the vaccinations are not being routinely delivered by GP Surgeries.

People most at risk of the complications of Covid-19 are being offered the vaccine first. Currently those eligible may have received a text, letter or have been called by Addenbrookes’ or Peterborough City Hospital to ask them to book an appointment at one of the first clinics at the hospital sites.

You can choose to accept this appointment or wait until more clinics and locations are available in the community. We will update you as this happens.

Please don’t contact the NHS or your GP Surgery to enquire about the vaccine before then. we hope to be able to provide a further update in the next few days.

COVID-19 Vaccination programme

Patients are asked not to contact the surgery regarding COVID-19 Vaccinations.

FLU Clinic Sat 12th December 2020

Patients aged 50-64 attending our flu clinic on the 12th  December 2020 may being given a Flu vaccine licensed in the USA which has been authorised for temporary supply in the UK by the Department of Health & Social Care and the MHRA. For further information on this vaccine prior to the clinic please see the information leaflet HERE   


If you are a registered patient aged 50-64 or aged 18+ in an at risk category, we have drop in clinics on Saturday 12th December 8am - 12pm.

No appointment is necessary.  Please wear a face covering, use hand sanitiser and ensure adherence to social distancing guidance


We are making contact with our remaining patients who have not yet had a Flu jab age 65+ this week and next.

Priority patients under the age of 65 will be contacted once our scheduled delivery arrives. We expect this to be next week and will then book patients in during December.

All patients aged 50-64. NHSE have this morning advised we can now order this vaccine. Once we have an allocated delivery date we will be in touch with patients to arrange an appointment.

Please do not contact the Surgery for an appointment unless you have been asked to do so. As soon as we have confirmed dates we will provide an update and issue invitations.

We still have some Flu vaccinations for patients aged 65 and over in stock. If you would like to have one then please attend Alconbury Surgery on Tues 17th November or Brampton Surgery on Wednesday 18th November, 2-5pm.

We are still working through our Flu vaccinations for clinically at risk patients under 65 years of age. If you feel you may be eligible and have not been contacted by us then please check with reception. We are expecting another delivery of 500 vaccines for this group in the last week of November and will be contacting patients yet to attend once these have arrived.

We do not yet have the details from NHSE for the delivery of Flu Immunisations for non priority patients aged 50-64. As soon as we do, we will of course update you.

Information about Flu Vaccinations for 2020


We will be contacting patients who are eligible for the flu vaccination in September with an invitation to this year’s FLU days. As in previous years we plan to offer the flu vaccine at clinics, including some Saturdays, during October to ELIGIBLE PATIENTS ONLY. We have not planned September clinics due to the risk of delayed deliveries.


Due to the current guidance and restrictions caused by Covid-19, how we deliver the service will differ from previous years. With the need to maintain adequate social distancing we will be inviting patients to attend during an allocated time window and must ask that you wear a face covering and maintain 2 metres distance between yourselves and other households whilst queuing. We will operate a one way system through the Surgery to make this process as efficient as possible and minimise the risk to staff and patients.


We will be inviting those patients in the Covid-19 shielded categories and those deemed clinically at risk first. We will then extend the invite to patients over 65.


Whilst the Government are keen to provide people in the 50 to 64 year old age group without any clinical risk factors an immunisation, these patients will not be invited until November and December providing there is sufficient vaccine. This is to ensure that those who are most at risk are vaccinated in order of clinical priority.

Access to Alconbury Surgery Car Park from 1st September

Alconbury School has been approved to be part of the Government School Streets project commencing 1st September 2020. This means that there will be a safe zone with volunteer operated barriers either side of the school and access to Alconbury Surgery car-park will be via Manor Lane only during the following times.

Join a COVID-19 clinical trial

The PRINCIPLE trial aims to find treatments that reduce hospital admission and improve symptoms for people with COVID-19. You could be eligible to join if

  • You have had these symptoms for fewer than 15 days:
    • new continuous cough or high temperature or a loss of , or change in, normal sense of taste or smell
  • OR have a positive test to SARS-Co-V2 infection with COVID-19 symptoms in the past 14 days
  • You are aged 50 to 64 with a pre-existing illness
  • You are aged 65 and above

Update on Face Coverings / Face masks 16.07.20

GPs are not contractually obliged or in a position to provide exemption letters or certificates for patients who believe that they should be exempt from wearing a face covering.  Cambrigeshire LMC has produced some guidance as a result of the Government's announcement of the use of face coverings in various public places which can be viewed HERE

If you cannot wear a face mask because of a disability or health problem Disability Travel Support have produced some exemption cards you may wish to print and carry with you.  These can be found HERE

Update on Shielding from the Coronavirus 23.06.20

From 6th July, patients who are shielding will be able to meet outdoors in groups of up to six people they do not live with and/or create a ‘support bubble’ with one other household.

From Saturday 1 August, clinically extremely vulnerable people will no longer be advised to shield, but support will still be available from NHS volunteers and the local council.  Patients will have priority supermarket delivery slots, access help with shopping, medication, phone calls and transport to medical appointments.

While this group of patients should continue to follow strict social distancing measures, they will be able to take part in activities such as visiting shops and places of worship and those who need to work and can't do so from home, will be able to return to the workplace as long as their employer has put measures in place to keep the environment safe from Covid-19 and is following the government guidance.

Alconbury & Brampton Surgeries Update 19.06.20

As the country eases out of lockdown the restrictions put in place at the Surgery unfortunately have to remain. As the wider population interact more we must continue to work in a way that protects our team and patients to reduce the risk of a coronavirus infection and ensure we can continue to provide a safe and sustainable service. To this end all patients will continue to be screened for covid symptoms and all initial appointments with a clinician will be via telephone. We ask that patients do not call in to the surgery opportunistically and only attend by invitation if requested to do so. If you are attending the surgery in person then please supply a face covering if you are able to. 

We are beginning to review services previously put on hold and will be inviting patients to attend for appointments where we feel it is safe to do so. In addition to our usual services we also have 2 new members of the team with us one day a week. Clinical Pharmacist Nazish Perween will be helping resolve medication queries and liaising with patents on behalf of the Doctors and Physiotherapist Simon Margot is available for telephone assessment of issues relating to injured limbs or back pain. In addition, as a Training Practice our current GP Trainees who make a valuable contribution to the services available to patients will remain with the Practice until at least the beginning of August.

 The Government advice regarding shielded patients initially suggested that this group of patients isolate until the end of June. Throughout the pandemic guidance has been issued to GP Surgeries and the public simultaneously and we are not given prior notification of imminent changes. As and when new information is released we will implement the guidance as requested but we do not anticipate issuing any new letters to patients currently shielding. Patients and employers will be directed to the Government guidance should they have any queries regarding shielding and/or social distancing requirements as in most cases this advice will apply with few exceptions.  

We would like to thank all of our patients for coping so well with the rapid pace of change to the way we care for you in recent months. We have all had to adapt and the Surgery would have been unable to make this transition successfully without your support. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank those patients who have volunteered their services to help us meet the needs of the more vulnerable members of our community at this time. Please remember that we are still here to care for you if you become unwell and if you have any concerns then please do not hesitate to contact reception to make an appointment for assessment and the necessary treatment. Where to get medical help over the May Bank Holiday

Unlike the earlier Bank Holidays in April and May, GP practices will not be open on 25 May, however there is still a wide range of NHS services available over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Find out what is available locally at

Surgery update regarding the identification of high-risk patients. 31.03.20


We very much appreciate the importance of the shielding letters discussed by the Government and we are expecting updated guidance for general practice in the next 5-7 days. 


Although the site and TV/media are directing patients to their GP, as it stands today we are not able to add patients to the shielded list.  All patients included in the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) defined cohort that could be identified through centrally available data are now flagged on GP systems and have received a letter; however centrally available data was limited and NHS Digital are now updating the original cohort to identify additional patients based on GP extracted data.


Whilst there may still be other patients, that GPs consider to be in the highest risk category and who should be advised to shield, they have asked that we do not run searches to identify these cohorts at this stage.  We are advised that NHS Digital will be in touch this week to confirm how this process can be streamlined for GPs and we stand by to action as swiftly as we can.

Alconbury Dispensary Update 24.03.20

From Wednesday 25th March our Dispensary will be offering a reduced collections service to minimise patient contact. Medication collection will be available from 10am-12noon each day and from 3pm until we close each afternoon we open. Prescription requests can be dropped off as usual but our team will not be available in person. Thank you for your understanding.

During the last week the Practice has had to implement changes to many of our established working Practices in order to continue to meet the needs of our patients whilst also ensuring the heath and wellbeing of our team. Please be patient with our staff as new processes are rolled out and help us to ensure that we can help you when you most need us.
Doctors: Patients are only able to book telephone appointments with a GP.
The GP will assess whether a face to face appointment is necessary and make arrangements to see you if appropriate. We will not invite you to the GP Surgery if you have Coronavirus Symptoms.
Many medication reviews and routine follow ups can be conducted over the phone.
Nurses Our Nursing team are able to provide some routine review services to patients over the phone. This includes Pill Checks, Diabetic, COPD and Asthma Checks. Where a face to face element of the check is required this can be delayed until your next follow-up appointment.
We are continuing with face to face appointments for patients who have been screened as clear of coronavirus symptoms: Smears, Baby Immunisations, Travel Immunisations, B12 and Depo injections. Ear syringing will be assessed on a case by case basis. Cryotherapy services have been suspended as this is a non-essential service and treatment can be sourced over the counter from your local Pharmacist.
Healthcare Assistants: Our HCAs will continue with DMARDS/High risk drug monitoring and any bloods designated as necessary by GP. Any patient attending for bloods must be screened for symptoms.
Prescribing: We would like to encourage patients to register for online access to request your repeat medication electronically. We are also able to transfer your prescriptions electronically to your nominated Pharmacy via eps which will save you a return visit to the Surgery.

Our Dispensary team are extremely busy at present so please allow 4 working days for us to process your repeat prescription requests.
Covid-19 FITNotes/Med3
Employees are able to self -certify for 7 days and for longer periods of isolation required the Government has asked employers to accept ‘Digital isolation Notes’ which will provide reassurance to those self-isolating and their employers while also reducing the pressure on our NHS, so they can continue doing all they can to protect the people of this country and save lives.
The isolation note service can be accessed via the 111 online coronavirus service or NHS.UK/coronavirus as well as via the NHS App.
Non-Covid-19 FITNotes/Med3
These can be generated electronically and sent to the patient by email. Please discuss with reception to ascertain whether a GP appointment is needed to issue this for you.

Please do not enter either Surgery unless authorised to do so.  Patients will not be given appointments unless they have telephoned to be assessed.  Please be patients when trying to get through on the telephone.


Following the updated Government Coronavirus guidance all GP appointments at the Practice have been scheduled as a telephone call rather than face to face. If you feel you need to see a GP in person then please book a telephone appointment in the first instance and the GP will advise whether you need to be seen at the Surgery. Necessary Nurse & HCA appointments will continue for patients without symptoms, please prepare to answer our receptionists questions.



We would like to encourage patients to sign up for online access to enable you to request your repeat medications electronically. We are also able to transfer your prescriptions electronically to your nominated Pharmacy via eps which will save you a return visit to the Surgery.

The UK has moved from the containment phase to the delay phase of managing the COVID-19 pandemic.


If you have either a high temperature over 37.8 OR a new persistent cough then please stay at home and self isolate for 7 days.


If you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home or your condition gets worse or after 7 days your symptoms do not get better PLEASE USE THE NHS 111 ONLINE CORONAVIRUS SERVICE .


Please only call 111 if you cannot get help online. Any appropriate support will be provided by the 111 service and we will not be able to see you at the Surgery or provide advice over the phone.


Our Receptionists will be asking all patients questions regarding symptoms prior to booking any appointments.

Pregnancy Care Planner

From July 2020, the way a pregnant patient registers their pregnancy has changed.

The patient must now self-refer to the Midwifery team at Hinchingbrooke Hospital using a link from the North West Anglia Foundation Trust website.

(A text confirmation service is currently being set up so that the patient will receive confirmation that their referral has been received. However in these early stages please reassure patients not to worry if they do not receive any confirmation) After selecting the ‘I’m Pregnant’ options, patients have a page with information and a leaflet which outlines the choices, which should be read before clicking on the self-referral form called ‘Your Choices’.
  3.  There is an option to select either Peterborough City Hospital or Hinchingbrooke Hospital self-referral forms. Patients should select Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
